By now you probably all know about the amount of money that the Government has taken away from the Council. Their latest wheeze has been to top slice the New Homes Bonus. This bonus was created by the Government to compensate Councils to a small extent for the massive losses inflicted on them, whilst encouraging the building of new homes. Brent did quite well last year, which helped to keep some of our services going. This year the government announced that they were going to top slice the bonus to put money into other projects.
There was a national outcry about this because it was giving with one hand and taking away with the other. The upshot oft this was that, in his autumn statement, the Chancellor announced that the top slice idea would be scrapped - except for London! Once more Londoners are robbed whilst the rest of the country is not penalised. This is not acceptable and all the leaders of London councils are
Using to have this decision changed. If we lose this battle we will be worse off than anticipated.
